On the 10th November our school held a public educational session about the Khmer Rouge genocide (1975-79) in coordination with the Documentation Centre of Cambodia (DCC). Mr Pheng Pong-Rasy, Team Leader of Genocide Education from the Documentation Centre of Cambodia, gave a lecture on the Khmer Rouge genocide and showed two films, one of which was “Enemies of the People”. Many people attended, including high school students and older generation Cambodians, our hall was full.
It has been the long-term wish of the founder of our school to promote truth and healing in a province dramatically affected by Khmer Rouge rule and insurgency. We will be repeating this session for other Cambodians who would like to attend. We profoundly thank the Documentation Centre of Cambodia and Mr Pheng Pong-Rasy for their extraordinarily important work in bringing the truth about Cambodia’s recent history to the public and helping Cambodians over-come the terrible pain and trauma of their past and educating young people to know about their own country.
